Hello About Time newspaper!

‍

My name is Briar, I am currently incarcerated in WA.

‍

I’m currently in limbo awaiting sentencing so finding ways to pass time.

‍

I’m a good friend of Rocket Bretherton and would love to shout out to her!

‍

Her book ‘She Is Me’ is still doing the rounds here and is a massive hit. I’m a very big fan of the paper since I came across it last time. You guys are doing an amazing job at not only lifting spirits but also keeping us connected with others in the same predicaments.

‍

The only thing I could add is perhaps looking at adding more supportive services/places/people we can go to once we are released. I know personally this was a huge problem for me and at least 10 other girls I was released with within a 4-5 week period, we all came back to jail.

‍

Homelessness, addiction, no family, turned right back to what got us here in the first place. I think this is a huge problem for especially young vulnerable women to have more support on release!

‍

I was literally shown the door, given $20 and booted to a bus stop with the clothes on my back. Alone. So yeah that’s what I reckon. Thanks guys and great job.

Over the past 5 years I have completed numerous courses and obtained tickets for forklift – working at heights, confined space, first aid, and test and tag.

Being an older gay man myself, I have noticed a lot of younger guys in here are maybe a little confused about their sexuality.
