Support Group Needed

By

Steven

Steven writes from a prison in WA.

Being an older gay man myself, I have noticed a lot of younger guys in here are maybe a little confused about their sexuality.

‍

In this prison, they have many clubs or organisations to help people, such as AA and NA, drug groups, church groups, and many others.

‍

I feel something for gays might be worth thinking about. I floated it here but it never was taken up.

‍

And why are there so many older men in prison? Why not an ankle bracelet and home detention?

‍

So many of us struggle to walk and we get sick more often. Yes we did wrong, very wrong in some cases. Some of our crimes go back years.

‍

Some of our guys – 75, 83, 95 years old – most, if not all, are beyond hurting anyone anymore.

‍

Our prisons are over-flowing, yet us old men still linger on.

Homelessness, addiction, no family, turned right back to what got us here in the first place. I think this is a huge problem for especially young vulnerable women to have more support on release!
