About

What's in the Paper?

Willy Pleasance

Letters:

About Time dedicates many of its pages to publishing the letters of people in prison, as well as from their family and friends. This is the centrepiece of the paper: a platform for people to share their experiences and learn from each other.

News and Investigations:

Each edition contains news articles and investigative pieces. These are topical stories that are usually about prisons and criminal justice. We also summarise the latest criminal justice news around the country, focusing on the states where the paper is currently published.

Experiences:

Each month we publish stories about individuals’ experiences with the criminal justice system. There are so many ways that people have interacted with the system, and so many stories to tell. Experiences aims to tell those stories, presented as beautiful feature articles.

Learn:

Our Learn section shares articles and practical how-to-dos across a variety of topics.

Culture:

About Time is dedicated to exploring and writing about the culture that people are engaging in, in Australia and the world. We seek to keep readers informed about the latest in sport, film, literature and the arts, plus much more.

Health:

Each edition includes information that will help people inside stay physically and mentally healthy. This includes exercise programs, mindfulness training and useful recipes.

Legal Corner:

About Time is conscious of the myths that circulate around prisons, and the shortage of available information inside. The paper seeks to alleviate these issues by publishing informative legal content to avail people in prison of their rights and opportunities.

Mob:

About Time includes material dedicated to the unique experience of First Nations people and their interaction with the criminal justice system.

Reintegration:

About Time creates educational content to assist readers preparing for the outside, relying on the expertise of relevant organisations.

Creative:

The paper publishes creative contributions from incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. This includes short-stories, poetry, creative non-fiction and art.

Play:

The paper also includes jokes, cartoons, puzzles and a monthly quiz.
