Fundraising From the Inside

By
classmates at South Coast CC Intensive Learning Centre.

Miles Burke

To ‘About Time’ jail newspaper,

I’m an inmate currently at South Coast Correctional Centre in sector 5 “C classo”. I’m writing on behalf of my classmates here at the Intensive Learning Centre (ILC), and just wanted to spread the word, that we as a class created a chocolate fundraiser, as part of an assessment task, to raise money for a local charity that supports sick and disabled kids and their families. We fundraised just over $1000 dollars for this charity. I thought I could write in to you so it can get posted in the newspaper and with any luck get some boys in any centre to push for a fundraiser for a local charity near them. It’s a great cause and everyone benefits from it. The boys get some chocolate and lollies and a local charity gets a well-deserved donation.

Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully see it in the paper.

Cheers,

South Coast ILC

Strip Searches

By Nikita

It’s daunting enough when you get arrested by police, then placed into custody and thrown into a cell. Then you have to go through a degrading strip search.

If It’s Broken, Then Fix It

By Andrew

I’ve spent most of my adult life behind bars, and I’m not proud to say it. It’s been such a bloody waste.

Australia’s prison population is growing, and our many prisons are spread far and wide.
