Poetry

Beyond the Steel Mesh

Anonymous

The author writes from a prison in QLD.

Willy Pleasance

I hope you enjoy this poem I wrote, taking an absurdist perspective on life in here, for we all have the choice to frame what we experience either positively or negatively.

Steel Mesh

The cage stands bold

With its steel-clad mesh,

For within its grip

It’s us it holds.

Ten foot walls

Of cold creme concrete,

For outside we muster

Like horses in stalls.

For some will find

Every day these walls and cage,

Encroach and enclose

Into their steel mesh minds.

Those who look

However

May not always see.

For this beautiful cage

A kaleidoscope of silver,

Glowing in the golden sun

Over our concrete stage.

Contrasted by

The brilliant blue sky,

And handsome clouds

Drifting by.

Each golden ray

Dispersing explosively

On our steel mesh minds

As begins a new day.

For it is only when

We learn to see,

That our minds

Can be set free.
