A green charcoal illustration of a star.

Time, for me, was at first just “the clock on the wall” at high school. When is lunch? When will this test finish? And when is home time?

‍

But since prison, I only ever wonder about time in this regard: When is court? Or when is parole due? What time are programs? Even how long until my full-time custodial end date?

‍

May… May… 9:30am… 2028

‍

Things have changed from playgrounds to the confines of a prison yard, though something reassures me that maybe just maybe this isn’t all time has in store for me.

‍

Just a breath; speck of dust, there’s plenty of present moments to make amends,

‍

“What should I do now?” Focus on repaying your debts!

‍

Thank you Lord, maybe one day I’ll be perfect, maybe is this amen!

‍

Amen!

Our time machine doesn’t take the form of a Tardis, or DeLorean, yet it does represent an equally large figure in pop culture and science fiction (at least those forced into hard labour on a mining planet colony usually got a spectacular view of the galaxy around them).
