A Voice Behind Bars

By
Geoff

Geoff writes from Hopkins CC, in Victoria.

The Voice referendum failed for the following reasons:

  1. It did not have the support of Aboriginal peoples.
  2. The general public did not understand what they were voting for. Issue was not clear in the questions.
  3. It did not enjoy bipartisan support.
  4. The Referendum of Voice did not separate the issue of Informed Consent and Aboriginal Sovereignty.
  5. Like 1967, the same mistake was repeated, White people deciding what’s right for Aboriginal peoples.
  6. Truth Treaty Voice was in reverse. A Truth Commission needs to look at Ownership of land post Actions of the Crown, how land was acquired from Aboriginal people.

We need a just and fair process, a National Treaty Debate.

Truth is ownership of the PAST. Other matters need action, including adopting the Declaration on the Right of Indigenous Peoples’, National Land Rights and the International Labour Organisation 169 Convention, which recognises Indigenous peoples’ right to self-determination.

I’m Proud to Say I’m an Aboriginal Man

By Matthew

I’m sick of doing crime, I’m sick of doing jail. It’s time to put pen to paper, and send this in the mail.

Walking on History: Sharing Culture and Country

By the Teelack Brothers

It all has a history. So just take a second to think on how old that could be and where it came from or even who or how it could have got there.
